News coming out of Liberia about the deadly Ebola virus, which seems far from over, is even more troubling every time someone talks about it. It is believed that most towns and villages in the Quardu-Gboni District in Lofa County do have suspected cases of the virus. Our trust is in the almighty Allah for arresting this painful and very dangerous illness. While it’s true that we are praying on a daily basis for the intervention of the almighty, we are also heavily involve in the social awareness and solicitation of help of any kind from anyone towards to the eradication of the Ebola virus out of Liberia and its’ neighboring countries.
Based on such effort, the leadership of the QGMA held two events simultaneously on yesterday August 13, 2014 at the residence of the Honorable Eminent Person; Anthony Kesselly in Philadelphia. The first event was a strategy face-to-face meeting on how help can reach out to our people that are affected either directly or indirectly by the Ebola virus. The meeting, which was well attended by host of individuals from the district and others that are not directly from the district achieved a lot. The Ebola committee set up by the QGMA leadership and headed by uncle Camah Mulaba, was praised for their swift efforts in identifying areas that needs immediate attention.
A sense of working together was well stressed by almost everyone in attendance. Working together as a team in these kinds of crisis pays well then segmented effort, which might not yield the desire result. Given the success of collaborative effort, QGMA will be joining effort with the Alliance of Political Reformation In Liberia (APRIL), which is chaired by Mr. Joseph Sackor in a WALK to create awareness for the eradication of Ebola out of Liberia. During this work, every necessary item ranging from Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to Chlorine, Clorox, Buckets and all needed items will be solicited from well meaning individuals and donors to be shipped to Liberia. We will be informing the public of the date for the walk. Various hospitals, universities and health centers have been contacted already to form a part of this event.
At the end of meeting, the second event was the honoring of Mr. Musa Konneh who is based in London and currently visiting the United States. Mr. Konneh and family were officially welcome to the U. S by President Mohamed Janga Kanneh of QGMA. Mr. Musa Konneh was also awarded certificate of recognition and appreciation for his tireless and dedicated efforts towards the communities both abroad and in Liberia. Receiving the award, Mr. Konneh cried while standing by his beautiful wife and daughter. In his brief remarks, Mr. Konneh said that while he is thankful to the QGMA leadership, he least expected such an award because in his view, he has got a lot to do like every community member. He happily extended the award to his beautiful wife and daughter, whom he said are the proper recipients.
President Mohamed Janga Kanneh, V.P Musa Trawally, S. G Mohammed Kenneh as well as elder Sekou Morris Kanneh were all in attendance. It’s now time that we must all join the fight against the Ebola virus that is killing our people on daily basis as a team and not fragmented groups. May Allah help Mama-Liberia out of this crisis and heal our people.
