2nd National Convention

Quardu-Gboni Mandingo Association

Providence, Rhode Island – August 16, 2008

The 2nd Annual convention of the Quardu-Gboni Mandingo Association, QGMA, held in providence, Rhode Island on August 16, 2008, adopted the following resolution.

EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF QUARDU GBONI DISTRICT

1.       That the association will act to seek avenues for addressing some, if not, most of the current educational problems within the Quardu-Gboni District. These problems include but are not limited to the issue of teaching staff within the schools throughout the district. It was reported, that the District currently has nearly 6000 students with less then 100 teachers; only five of which are on government pay roll. It is also reported that there is an acute shortage of chairs for the students while there is an emerging threat of desertion by the teachers, if immediate steps are not taken to arrest the presenting problems. Payment for teachers at this instant is calculated at 20 US dollar monthly. For 100 teachers, a total monthly salary is calculated at 2,000 US dollars.

2.       Accordingly, the QGMA Convention agreed to establish immediate contact with authorities and other interest parties within the District for information on needed areas for enhanced Educational programs.

3.       The convention further resolved on the need for the Association’s Leadership to ensure that further concrete steps are taken towards the establishment of the Board of Directors without which the Association’s  501 ( c ) 3 status will remain unattainable. Upon the attainment of the 501-C-3 status, the convention foresees the possibility of benefiting from assistance from various donor or humanitarian organizations to address various other needs within the District.
